This blog post has all the qualities of a good theme post. It meets the standards of createing a theme and providing evidence for that theme. My theme was, even if no one else believes with hope you can get through it. It shows i can make a good thematic statement because it isnt a cliche and is not directing a person to do something. i also provided some details from the book that help prove the theme. after i provided the examples from the text i explained how they related back to the theme. and i use details from the begining top show how the theme emerges from the book. i then go on with details from the middle and near the end to show how it is shaped and refined. I think that proves that i can write a good thematic statement and add details and explain the them well.

 

For the next trimester i am going to set some reading and writing goals for myself. i also have some thing that i need to improve on in those catagories. I will make my reading goal to finsh at least two books for the next trimester. i think that this is a good goal because i finished one book this trimester but i finished it alittle after the middle of the trimester so i could have finished another book. For writing i am going to set my goal todo a few more posts opn blogger. Some reading skills i need to improve on are doing more annotaions and close reading with books.i also should start looking up the definitions of words i dont know more when reading. iFor writing some things i should improve on are adding more figurative language into my writting like similes and medaphors. i also think that i should add more dialoge into my writting.

CHARACTER POST

in the hunger games one character is thresh. he is a tribute from district eleven. he is very bulk and strong and ruthless. katnis and rue pair up and other tributes end up killing rue. when katnis is being attacked her attacker says something about how they killed rue and when thresh hears that he helps katnis by killing her attacker. he also does not kill her and lets her go. he had turned more caring and sensitive since he was in district eleven with rue and since rue was so young.

i recently read an article about how a guy from mason is now on dancing with the stars. i think that this is cool because he went to mason when he was in high school. even though i dont watch the show alot of people do. i know that my parents watch the show. the show will give mason some more publicity. i also know that bill nye is on dancing with the stars.that got alot o f people talking too.

reading skills post

I finished my book and i predict that in the next book katnis will fall in love with peetah. I also think that the capital will try to do something bad to peetah or Katnis or both. i predict these because peetah actually was in love with Katnis, and the capitol was mad when they both won the hunger games. i dont understand why the capitol cares so much about them both winning the hunger games. i also want to know why haymich helped Katnis and Peetah after the hunger games because they thought he hated them. A text to world connection is that after they won the hunger games everyone was cheering them on and supporting their district like in the Olympics after they win they cheer them and their country. a text to text connection is that in this book Peetah liked Katnis and their the main characters and in matched the main characters liked eachother. A text to self connection is that in the book Katnis was taking care of peetah when he was injured and sick and when my dad had cancer me and my family all took care of him

I read the science of love article for the Romeo and Juliet debate. It talked about the stages of love and how you feel when you are in love. There are three stages of love, lust, attraction, attachment. i found this interesting and saw bow it related to Romeo and Juliet. They showed some signs of being in love like not concentrating and sleeping. It also talked about how your attracted to people based on your genes which i found weird.

book recomandation

The book I'm reading is The Hunger Games. This book leaves you on cliff hangers and leaves you wanting to know what happens next. I think both boys and girls would like this book because it has action and it also has romance mixed in making it dramatic. I think that this book is an amazing book and would recommend it to everyone, especially those who like suspense and excitement. you never know what will happen in the hunger games. I think Susanne Collins is a very descriptive writer and makes you feel like your in the book. She also made great characters, I love their personalities and how they interact with each other. I'm pretty sure most people would like to read to see who wins the hunger games, and what goes on in them.

tone and mood post

The tone of my book the hunger games is serious and forceful. I know this because they are in the arena and are down to last few people and everyone wants to win and not die so everyone is serious. They give commands to people their alliance so they are forceful. The mood of my book is suspenseful. I know this because anyone could die or something bad could happen at any point in the book and you don't know what's next.  One part in my book where Katnis was persuasive was when she insisted that Rue take her sleeping bag when Rue didn't want to take it from her. Katnis's tone was loving, this helped persuade Rue because she saw Katnis cared about her and wanted her to be safe and warm in the night.

This post is about an article I read about the shut down of the government called no end in sight to government shutdown after 'unproductive' White House meeting. In this article they talk about how the government wasn't agreeing with each other and could not negotiate with each other. They were fighting about the heath care plan Obamacare, and the democrats agreed and republicans did not agree with them. It also had quotes in the article from some of the people who were fighting in the meeting and from Obama. I think that the government should just meet in the middle about this situation and get the government back up. I also don't like how they shut down all the national parks and memorials. I also heard world war two veterans tore down the gate and went to see the memorials.

nikki's characters post

In the hunger games the main character Katnis is a dynamic character. She starts out in the book very caring for the people she was closer to especially for especially her little sister prim and only killed animals. But when she goes into the hunger games she becomes more independent and only is for herself and doesn't make alliances. But when less people are left she makes an alliance with Rue and then Peetah and starts being less independent and all for herself. Another character that is dynamic is Peetah. He begins the book as a more goody boy and is very nice. But before the hunger games he admits that he loves Katnis. Then when the games start he joins an alliance with the careers which are people who train for the hunger games and they try to take down everyone, which is unlike Peetah. Then he saves Katnis from them killing her and escapes from them to align with Katnis. they both changed their strategies and feelings since the games changed showing that the characters have evolved over the course of the book.

NIkkis second post

The article I chose was FBI releases video of 'delusional' Navy Yard shooter. This article was about a shooter named Aaron Alexis who held a shooting. His reason for this was he thought that electromagnetic waves were controlling him. This occurrence had killed 12 people in the pentagon that day. He entered the building and came out of a bathroom in dark clothing and a mask and started shooting in the building. He was eventually shot down on the scene by police after about an hour a witness says. People are questioning how Aaron got into the building because he has had a past with gun misuse. I am also wondering why they would let him in because if he has had that kind of past he shouldn't be allowed inside let alone with a gun. His mental heath was questioned because he said he had insomnia and felt vibrations and heard voiced through the walls. I think that he did have mental problems and shouldn't be owning a gun, also I think its very sad 12 people had lost their lives.

Nikki's theme and summary post

The theme for my book the hunger games is, even if no one else believes with hope you can get through it. I think that this is the theme because in the beginning of the book Katnis's dad dies and they are left with nothing and are starving but they didn't die because Katnis learned how to hunt and kept hope alive for her little sister and mother. Also when she gets called into the hunger games most district 12 tributes don't survive and people aren't expecting them two to stay alive but they both are alive so far in the book and have made it to the final five people and I'm expecting them to win. Since she has made it so far it has also given her more hope that she could win the hunger games. Even when Katnis's leg got badly burned in a fire, was stung by tracker jackers and lost her ally Rue she kept fighting to stay alive and had hope. a summary of chapter 21 is that Katnis has just found Peeta and has him hidden in a cave where they are staying. He is in bad condition because he had a bad cut on his leg. She know the cut is bad and the capitol has told everyone there will be backpacks with everything they need at dawn and Katnis is planning to go to get him his medicine. but Peeta doesn't want her to risk her life to go get it so she gives him sleep medicine and goes out to retrieve it. when she goes she is the second to go out and get her back pack but gets caught by Clove. Clove is about to kill her when Thresh saves her and lets her go to show respect and not owe Katnis anymore for her what she did for Rue. The chapter ends with her getting back to Peeta with the medicine.

I recently read an article that was about the Colorado floods. I think that this article is very sad yet happy because the floods are ruining peoples houses and lives. Its happy because they have recently saved 1,200 people from the flooded areas by evacuating them. there are still about 230 people that are unaccounted for still stuck in the floods. I think they should send out more search parties to help look for the lost people still out there. I think that everyone should send out their prayers to the people still lost and their families who are missing them. I hope that the people who are still missing get found soon.

Nikkis Analysis Post

In the book The Hunger Games I can conclude that before the hunger games they make sure you cant leave the building. a quote that proves this is "He holds out his hand into seemingly empty space. "some kind of electric field throws you back on the roof" (Collins, 81). That quote proves it because it shows there's a field around the building so you cant leave unless your escorted out. Another conclusion is that Rue is looking up to Katnis. I infer this because in the book it says, "I think we have a shadow." I throw my spear, which I'm not too bad at actually, if I don't have to throw too far, and see the little girl from District 11 standing back a bit, watching us" ( Collins, 99).  I think that means she looks up to Katnis because she watching what she does and doing it after her and that's what people do when they look up to someone. Another conclusion I have is that Peeta loves Katnis. I think this because the book states " Handsome lad like you. Must be some special girl. Come on what's her name?" says Caesar..."so what do you do. You win, you go home. She cant turn you down then, eh?" says Caesar encouragingly. "I don't think its going to work out. Winning...wont help my case," says Peeta... Because she came here with me" (Collins, 138). that proves that he loves Katnis because she is the girl from his district who came with him and people only know people from their own district.

I chose this video because it shows one of the conclusions I made from the book.

I recently read an article called rare six clawed lobster is caught of off Massachusetts. I found this interesting because usually lobsters only have 2 claws and this one had six. I think if you like animals you would like to read about this lobster in the article. the lobster was donated to the Maine state aquarium because of its rare deformity. they say he is like Edward scissor hands because of his mutation. I find that this lobster is lucky like they said in the article because now its not going to be killed instead it has a new home. I would like to visit an animal like him in the aquarium.

Nikkis Reading Skills Post

My new independent reading book is the hunger games. in the hunger games I predict that Katniss and Peeta are going to become friends and maybe lovers when they go to the hunger games. I think this because when she was younger after her dad died and she went looking for food he gave her two pieces of bread. Another prediction I have is that the other districts will be more prepared for the hunger games then Katniss and Peetah are. A question I have about the book is how the capital completely destroyed district 13, did they go in and shoot everyone or drop a bomb on them or held them captive? Also I don't understand how the districts are set up, like how far apart are they from another? A text to text connection I have about this in the book the government is very controlling and in the book matched the government is also very controlling. A text to world connection is that the people before were uprising to the government in the past in Europe the people started to up rise to their government during the enlightenment. A text to self connection I have with the book is that Katniss lost someone very close to her, her dad, and lost my grandma.

summer reading

One character in my summer reading book the fault in our stars is Hazel Lancaster. In the begging of the book she is anti-social and depressed. She goes to a support group and meets Augustus and Isaac. They become her friends and she became less depressed and goes out more. When she is hanging out with them she gets pretty close with them and supports Isaac through surgery and develops feelings for Augustus. She and Augustus start dating and the plot gets more interesting because they are now a couple and it changes things in their lives and activities. They are very close and she is no longer sad she is happy with Augustus and they go on vacation together. Her character changing throughout the book helps develop the theme because the theme is about always loving each other. Augustus’s cancer comes back and she still loves him as he loved her with her cancer she has.the book supports this because as you can see in the quote they love each other no matter what,  “Gus my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days and I'm grateful.” (Green,260)

this article is about how John Green is a very talented writer especially for teenagers. Also they mention how people used to react to cancer. It also decries some details of the book and what its about.
